About Us

As Liberia faces the challenges of rebuilding, business is a, if not the, key component for success as a nation. Every industry in Liberia requires microscopic attention. The players, their actions, forecasts, planning, management, financing, current state, global connections, policies, strategies, techniques, and ideas...all need platforms for discussions and solutions.

Our mission is to see businesses grow, new businesses developed, wealth created, investment rising, a robust economy, and the quality of life in Liberia improved. To do this, Business Liberia is a magazine that goes beyond the realm of publishing, but also engage in forums, training, conventions, meetings, and other hands on approaches to shaking up, uniting, and developing the marketplace.

Business Liberia is a quarterly magazine published by Baker Pearson Communications Inc, publisher of Liberia Travel and Life. Our first issue was published in July of 2009.

Unlike most magazines in Africa, Business Liberia and Liberia Travel and Life are locally owned and produced. We are the first publishers of magazines in Liberia since the reestablishment of peace.

Company History

Originally Zute Publishing, Baker Pearson Communications, Inc. was founded in 1999 in Atlanta, Georgia by Hesta Bakera-Pearson, a Liberian native. Disenchanted by the portrayal of Africa in the media, her vision was to one day build a multi-media company that would present Africa at its best…a vibrant and modern continent rich with people, culture, history, beauty, art, architecture, fashion, lifestyle, entertainment, nature, sites, and so much more. Armed with 18 solid years of media sales and management experience, over 10 years in the fashion industry, and several years in the tourism industry, she set out to make her vision a reality. Hesta embarked on the journey with her husband, Fortune Pearson, and together they published their first magazine title, Style. Style would serve as the springboard for bringing the vision to reality.

In 2006, Hesta’s dream came true when the family left the United States and relocated to Liberia, West Africa. In 2007, Liberia Travel and Life, a lifestyle consumer magazine, hit the newsstands, becoming the country’s first international magazine and Baker Pearson Communications’ flagship publication. In July, 2009 a second publication, Business Liberia, was launched to serve Liberia’s growing business and investment community. Today the company is also engaged in custom publishing for clients that demand the highest standards in quality publishing. A growing company, Baker Pearson Communications, Inc. is set to launch three new products in 2010.
